Free chlorine is susceptible to degradation by the Ultra Violet rays. Cyanuric acid (CYA) is used to stabilize (protect) chlorine from the damaging effects of the sun rays in outdoor pools and spas. Trichlor and Dichlor are stabilized forms of chlorine which already contain chlorine stabilizer in their formulas. Calcium hypochlorite, lithium hypochlorite, sodium hypochlorite, and chlorine gas are non-stabilized forms of chlorines. Pools and spas treated with these forms of chlorine require the separate addition of chlorine stabilizer, CYA. When you add chlorine stabilizer (CYA) to your pool or spa, it's very important to monitor its level. Too little stabilizer (CYA) and the chlorine won’t be adequately protected from the sun. Too much chlorine stabilizer (CYA) and chlorine can be over stabilized, locking it in place and decreasing its sanitizing and oxidizing abilities. The target range for chlorine stabilizer (CYA) is 30-50 ppm. Some health departments limit CYA to less than 100 ppm. Our chlorine stabilizer cuts chlorine consumption by up to 25%! * Pre-conditions your swimming pool-spa water to make chlorine last longer * Protects chlorine from the sun’s damaging effects * Increases chlorine effectiveness * Great for spring start-up * Dosage: 1-2/3 lbs. per 10,000 gallons. |
