Pool Chemical Handling

SWIMMING POOL CHEMICAL HANDLING

When handling swimming pool chemicals DO:

  • Read and follow manufacturer's instructions carefully. If there is anything you do not understand, ask for help.
  • Keep all chemicals out of the reach of children and pets.
  • Containers should always be kept tightly closed (in a clean, and dry place), when not in use.
  • Protect chemicals from moisture and water (i.e. coffee, water, soda, etc.). Even putting a wet scoop back into the chemical container could cause a reaction.
  • Use SEPARATE, clean, dry metal, or plastic measuring utensils for each chemical to be transferred, or measured. Do not use wooden utensils.
  • Wear the necessary protective equipment, i.e. gloves, goggles.
  • Always add the chemical to the swimming pool water - NEVER add water to the chemical.
  • Wash your hands thoroughly after handling any chemicals.
WARNING: Failure to follow the proper procedure can result in severe bodily injury, and/or property damage.

When handling swimming pool chemicals DON'T:

  • Do not use contents of unlabeled containers.
  • Never mix different swimming pool chemicals together.
  • Do not put spilled chemicals back into their containers.
  • Avoid touching the undiluted swimming pool chemicals with your bare hands.
  • Do not smoke when handling swimming pool chemicals.
  • Do not expose swimming pool chemicals to heat or flame.
  • In case of fire, do not use a "dry chemical" fire extinguisher. Try to extinguish it by using large amounts of water. Call the fire department, if necessary.
WARNING: Failure to follow the proper procedure can result in severe bodily injury, and/or property damage.
