SWIMMING POOL WATER VOLUME, CALCULATING
Swimming Pool Average Depth
The average depth of any size and shape swimming pool can be approximated by adding the depth at the deep end, plus the depth at the shallow end, and dividing the result by 2.
For instance: a swimming pool is 13 feet deep at the deep end, and 1 foot deep at the shallow end. The average depth is then:
( 13 feet + 1 foot ) / 2 = 14 feet / 2 = 7 feet.

Water Volume in a Rectangular Swimming Pools
The water volume contained in a rectangular swimming pool, in gallons, can be calculated by multiplying the Width, times the Length, times the average Depth (all in feet), times 7.5. The average depth is usually around the middle point between the deepest and shallowest points.
For instance, a rectangular swimming pool measures 30 feet long, and 20 feet wide. This swimming pool is 12 feet deep at the deep end, and only 2 feet deep at the shallow end. Assuming a constant slope, the average depth is then :
(12 + 2) / 2 = 14 / 2 = 7 feet deep (average)
The water volume is then:
30 (feet long) X 20 (feet wide) X 7 (feet average depth) X 7.5 = 31,500 gallons

Water Volume in a Round/Oval/Kidney Shaped Swimming Pools
The volume of water in a round or oval swimming pool, can be approximated by multiplying the length, times the width, times the average depth (all in feet), times 5.9.
For instance, a round swimming pool measuring 12 feet in diameter, and 4 feet deep, will then contain:
12 feet X 12 feet X 4 feet X 5.9 = 3398 gallons
The volume of water in an oval swimming pool can be approximated by following the above mentioned procedure:
For instance, an oval swimming pool that measures 20 feet long by 14 feet wide, and is 5 feet deep will contain:
20 feet X 14 feet X 5 feet X 5.9 = 8260 gallons.

L Shaped Swimming Pool Volume
The volume of water in an L shaped swimming pool can be calculated by braking down the pool into rectangular, or square shapes, and using the previously discussed formulas.
Irregular Shape Swimming Pool Volume
The volume in an irregular shaped swimming pool can be calculated by braking down the swimming pool into known shapes, and using the previously discussed formulas. If you still need help, email/fax us a picture/drawing of the pool, as well as all the pertinent measurements: lengths, widths, depths, etc. We will be glad to help you.
