SWIMMING POOL WINTER CLOSING, WINTERIZING

When handling chemicals, make sure you follow manufacture's instructions. You may have to wait anywhere from a few minutes, to overnight, to allow some chemicals in your pool to circulate.


• Before winterizing your swimming pool, make sure your it is perfectly clean. Clear all leaves, algae, and any other debris. Brush sides and bottom of pool. Vacuum pool. Clean skimmer, pump strainer basket, and any buildup along the pool’s waterline. We offer a wide variety of cleaners that you can use for this purpose.
  
  
• Low water levels as recommended by swimming pool cover manufacturer; typically 3-6" below tile for solid covers, and 12-18" for mesh covers.
  
  
• Adjust swimming pool water chemical balance. If you are unsure about how to handle pool chemicals, follow manufacturer's instructions. If these are not available, you can visit our help pages, where we offer tips on the DOs and DON'Ts of pool chemical handling. Adjust your pool's total alkalinity, and pH. We offer a complete line of chemicals to help you achieve a perfect pool chemical balance. Use your test kit to determine if you are within the ideal range.
  
  
• Add the chemicals to control rust and stains, allow water to circulate for a few minutes. These chemicals will help you take care of any stain problems..
  
  
• Add the shock, you may have to allow a few hours for the chemicals to circulate. Follow manufacturer's instructions. We offer shock for chlorine as well as non chlorine based sanitizing needs..
  
  
• Add algaecide, follow manufacturer's instructions for usage and doses. Algaecide is normally applied the morning after the shock was applied, and the chemicals have had time to circulate. We offer a wide variety of algaecides, one for every need.
  
  
• You can also use a closing kit. These kits contain all the chemicals you need to winterize your pool, making it a less taxing experience.
  
  
• Depending on your particular situation, you may need to add periodically (during the winter months), sanitizer, and/or algaecide, to keep the pool water clean. Unusually mild winters are one of the causes of algae growth. Make sure that you check your pool in the winter, and early spring, for signs of algae.
  
  
• Remove all accessories, and anything that interferes with the swimming pool cover placement. Should you need a new cover, We offer the strongest swimming pool covers in the market, take a look. and don't forget, custom covers are our specialty.
  
  
• Drain pool pump, filter, heater hoses and pipes of water, follow the manufacturer’s instructions.
  
  
• If you have an above ground swimming pool, blow out all water from filter, pumps, heater, etc. Follow your equipment manufacture's instructions.
  
  
• Clean filter thoroughly. Remember that DE and cartridge filter elements must be removed, cleaned, and stored in the filter tank. If filter elements are not thoroughly cleaned, the deposits may harden over the winter leading to problems in the spring.
  
  
• Remove and store: automatic cleaners, hoses, gauges, fittings, plugs, filters, etc.
  
  
• Blow all plumbing completely free of water. Use antifreeze where necessary. Plug lines with rubber expansion plugs.
  
  
• Cover your swimming pool properly, to keep leaves and foreign bodies out. You may want to use a leaf net, to make your swimming pool opening next spring a more pleasant experience. These high quality leaf nets will take the fuss out of next spring's swimming pool opening.
